Biology (grades 9-12)
Honors Biology is an in-depth laboratory course that Apologia Exploring Creation with Biology text and enhanced with additional material and activities to give students a college-preparatory level course that will prepare them for success in upper-level science courses later in high school and beyond. This course focuses on biochemistry, cytology, genetics, microbiology, botany, zoology and ecology through lecture, laboratory investigations, and independent studies. A vital skill in any upper-level science course, students will be instructed in the process of writing a formal lab report and illustration lessons for biological observations. Dissections: worm, crayfish, grasshopper, cricket, sea star, clam, frog, fish, and fetal pig. Three ecology projects are required.

For additional information regarding the class http://www.toplinescience.com/honors-biology1.html

Textbook/Materials: Apologia Biology textbook and solutions guide must be purchased before the course. The textbook is enhanced with additional material.

NEW Chemistry (grades 10-12)
  • Chemistry is a laboratory-intensive course concerned with the fundamental nature of matter, including classification of matter, chemical nomenclature, chemical equations, stoichiometry, quantum mechanics, periodicity, molecular structure and bonding, gas laws, aqueous solutions including colligative properties, kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibrium, and acid-base titrations.
  • This course content places a large emphasis on experimental design and execution to further facilitate the master of the scientific method. This course meets National and Tennessee Science chemistry course standards including abilities necessary to do scientific inquiry.
  • Scientific technology is used in the course (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy-rCaV3a54).
  • Training and resources for writing technically correct lab reports, to prepare the student for college lab courses in various sciences. Students will be instructed in the process of writing, revising, and producing a formal lab report, in general and specifically for that field of science. For each course, this training process includes written evaluation guidelines and in-class training.
  • Course meets Mondays at Bellevue with online support.

Textbook/Materials: Apologia Chemistry textbook and solutions guide must be purchased before the course. Purchase the NEW third edition.
The textbook is enhanced with additional material. Summer work is sent in late July to prepare the student for the math of chemistry.

Total Cost: $600.00 ($120/$240/$240)

Anatomy and Heath

  • This course begins with a review of fundaments of chemistry and cell biology. Students then make a study of each body system along with conditions and diseases associated with these body systems.
  • Students also study and consider the positive benefits of proper deathly habits of body, mind, and spirit. This course has the added benefit of completing the required Heath half credit.
  • Intensive memorization and cat dissection is required.
